Men bust through walls in Bartow burglary

Bartow, FL -- Bartow Police arrested David Overholt in connection with a business burglary that occurred at the Coin Laundry in the 1200 block of N Holland Pkwy last week.

Detectives say Overholt, a transient from Lakeland, and two accomplices entered the 24-hour business and forced their way through the wall into two adjacent businesses, Tips and Toes Nail salon and ATA Stereo.

Police: Lakeland trucker hid pot with cantaloupes

Lakeland, Florida -- A Lakeland trucker was arrested earlier this month for using watermelon and cantaloupe to conceal 50 pounds of marijuana.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says Gabriel Murillo was driving the fruit-filled truck when he was stopped on Interstate 10 by an officer after he allegedly failed to stop at an Agriculture Interdiction Station in Suwannee County. He was escorted back to the inspection station where officers discovered marijuana in clear bags among the fruit.

Swan eggs stolen from 2 Lakeland parks

LAKELAND, Florida (AP) - City officials want to know who is stealing swan eggs from Lakeland parks.

The Ledger of Lakeland reports that city workers who feed and monitor the swans first noticed eggs missing from Lake Morton and Lake Mirror last week.

Director of Parks and Recreation Bob Donahay says the swans were moved to Lake Morton so officials could keep tabs on the eggs. He says up to 20 eggs are missing.

Trio tries to cover burglary by claiming to be like 'Steve Irwin'

Winter Haven, Florida-- According to the Winter Haven Police Department, police caught a trio burglarizing a residence, and arrested them, despite their differing attempts to cover up their actions.

On Wednesday, April 12, police received a complaint from an alert citizen, and at approximately 11:30 a.m., arrived to the home in question where Evelyn Belmont, 24, stood outside. 

She asked the police if they knew if the property was for rent. 

Man steals Papa John's pizza costume

Lakeland, Florida -- Polk County Sheriff's detectives are looking for a man who walked out of a Lakeland Papa John's wearing a 6-foot pizza slice.

According to police, the man, believed to be about 18 years old, walked into the Papa John's at 6747 U.S. Highway 98 N, around 7 p.m. on Feb. 4, put on the costume over his clothes and walked out.

Willow Oak, Florida -- Two people are in jail Thursday after they engaged in a high speed pursuit when an officer who tried to pull them over for not wearing seatbelts.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, this afternoon on SR 60 in the area of Espo Drive, an officer noticed 23-year-old Keli Goff and 36-year-old Derek Smith not wearing seatbelts while riding in a Chevy Tahoe. When the officer tried to pull them over at a gas station at SR 60 and Willis Road, they took off.

Woman with "theft problem" steals over 50 designer glasses

Winter Haven, Fla. -- A Winter Haven woman was arrested Monday after detectives discovered the designer glasses she stole were being sold on her daughter's Facebook group page.

According to the Winter Haven Polcie Department, back on Dec. 22, 44-year-old Juli Mercer went to Family Eye Care Clinic in Winter Haven and was seen trying on sunglasses. During her time there, she left the business and returned several times and when she left the last time, employees noticed over 50 pairs of glasses were missing.
