Suspect in stolen manhole cover case caught

Haines City, Florida - Deputies say a 40-year-old Haines City man has been busted for stealing dozens of manhole covers.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says Christopher Fink stole 166 manhole covers from Village 7 in Poinciana. The estimated value of the theft is more than $21,000.

The Toho Water Authority reported the steel covers missing on Wednesday, Jan. 23. The covers were stolen sometime between January 9 and January 23.

Through their investigation, detectives learned Fink was responsible for stealing the manhole covers and then attempting to scrap them at area secondhand metal dealers.

Shortly after putting out an alert on Fink Thursday, deputies were able to take him into custody and say he'll be booked into jail after questioning.
