3 arrested after meth, frozen gators found in home

LAKE WALES, Florida (AP) - Sheriff's deputies arrested three people after finding two frozen alligators, an illegal fish and hundreds of grams of methamphetamine inside a central Florida home.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says they found numerous methamphetamine smoking devices and bags of the drug within the reach of twin 10-month-old babies.

Another Mystery Monkey on the loose?

Lakeland, Florida -- Cornelius the Mystery Monkey may be enjoying retirement after his capture last year, but another primate appears to have taken up his moniker in Tampa Bay... this time in Lakeland.

The Lakeland Ledger reports multiple residents in the Pine Ridge Estates spotted a small simian going from yard to yard, eating fruit and raiding bird feeders.

Three arrested for illegal moonshine operation in Polk County

Haines City, Florida -- Three men have been arrested for making, selling and distributing illegal moonshine in Polk County. 

On Thursday, August 15, Polk County deputies served search warrants of three homes, all containing moonshine. 

According to reports, the home on Carter Road, where Joe Aaron was arrested, contained the actual moonshine still and equipment. The still was located in bathroom and the moonshine appears to have been distilled from a mixture of grains. 

Three men steal $430 worth of candy in Winter Haven

Winter Haven, Florida -- Police are looking for three men who stole $430 worth of candy from a Walmart. 

Around 3:10 p.m. on July 19, three men entered the Walmart on Cypress Gardens Boulevard. The trio went to the candy aisle, where they selected a large assortment of candy from the shelf.

Reportedly, what was on the shelf was not enough, because the suspects asked an employee if there was more candy in the back.

Prostitution suspects arrested after posing with guns

Lakeland, Florida -- Two women previously arrested in an undercover prostitution sting are back in jail after they posted pictures of themselves with guns on their social media sites.

Polk County Sheriff's detectives say once they saw they pictures they notified the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and then arrested 25-year-old Brittany Dodd and 27-year-old Maylee Rossi.

Lakeland official fighting spitting ordinance

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - A Lakeland City Commissioner wants to do away with a 69-year-old ordinance that prohibits people from spitting on the sidewalk or grass.

Commissioner Don Selvage says the ordinance is outdated and was going to address the issue with the full board on Friday.

Selvage's plan to nix the spitting ordinance comes eight months after a man was arrested for spitting on the sidewalk or grass at 2:30 a.m. May 30 near Florida Southern College. The charge against Joseph Stoiber, 29, was dropped by prosecutors.

Six tangerine trees stolen out of Winter Haven

Winter Haven, Florida -- Winter Haven Police are asking for the public's help locating the person or persons responsible for stealing six seedless tangerine trees sometime over the past week.

Police say on Feb. 9 around 2:15 p.m., the victim discovered the six trees, valued at $1,000, were missing from property located along Hwy 653 in Winter Haven.
