Polk City Road to close at Carlisle Street

Haines City, FL-- The City of Haines City will close Polk City Road at Carlisle Street tomorrow at 9 a.m. for emergency sewer line and road repairs.

"The roadway collapsed due to a sewer line break, and emergency repairs are required," explains the Florida Department of Transportation. "Polk County Transportation Division estimates that the road will be closed until Friday, Oct. 5, 2012."

Commuters that utilize this road should find an alternate route, and plan for extra travel time.

Mulberry, Florida-- Today crews in Polk County will break fround on the installation of a new sewer main near Imperial Lakes Blvd. in Mulberry.

Motorists can expect recurring lane closures along Imperial Lakes Blvd. over the next six months, the amount of time estimated until project completion.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution, be alert to workers and traffic signs, and allow more time for trips through this area.

Lakeland, Florida-- Polk County Transportation Division announced that because of a partial road collapse, part of Kathleen Road, north of Gib-Galloway Road, is currently closed. 


Polk County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area to assist by directing traffic.


According to Jay Jarvis, Transportation Division Director, the road will remain closed for the remainder of today (Monday, September 24) and possibly tomorrow.


Motorists should avoid this area by seeking alternate routes until the road is reopened.

Edgewood Drive Extension now open

Edgewood Drive Extension now open

Lakeland, Florida - The much anticipated Edgewood Drive Extension that connects South Florida Avenue to Harden Boulevard officially opened Friday Morning.

Construction of the Edgewood Drive extension started January 1, 2012 and it  opened ahead of schedule.

The east/west connector has been in the works since 2001 when the City of Lakeland had its first initial workshop on possible routes.

6-month bridge rebuild begins Monday, road to close

Winter Haven, Florida—Motorists used to traveling 17th Street NW between Lake Howard and Havendale Boulevard will have to find an alternate route beginning Monday, September 24.

Crews will begin working to replace the 17th Street NW bridge, which spans the canal between lakes Cannon and Mirror.

The project will require closure of 17th Street NW in the area of the bridge. An alternate route will be required during the six-month project.

Lakeland, Florida-- The Lakeland Police warn those of you living or working near the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport of potential traffic delays this morning. 

The Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan "Farewell Victory Rally" takes place at the airport, likely causing "heavier than normal traffic."

They say Old Medulla Road from Waring Road to Pipkin will be open for local traffic only.

Polk County, Florida-- Sheriff Grady Judd anticipates a major increase in early morning traffic this coming Monday, as children throughout the county head to their first day of the '12-'13 school year.

Bikers, walkers, cars and buses will flood sidewalks and roadways.

In an effort to get drivers to obey speed limits and safety laws, Sheriff Judd reminds that "fines are doubled in school zones and that all law enforcement members take the safety of our children very seriously. As a responsible motorist, so should you.”
