FDOT alerts commuters of roads to "watch" for this week

Polk Co. FL-- The Florida Department of Transportation released their Road Watch Report for this week. 

According to the report, the following roadways will undergo maintinance or construction projects.

Commuters are advised to drive with caution though these areas, or plan alternative routes. It is also encouraged to allow for extra travel time.

Davenport, Florida -- Beginning Friday, Dec. 21, County Road 54 (Ronald Reagan Parkway) from Balmoral Court to Pinewood Drive will experience intermittent lane closures for a month as crews replace broken water valve boxes within the roadway.

As part of the county’s Kathleen Road widening project, Kathleen Oaks between Kathleen Road and Cheatwood Drive will close for four days starting Wednesday, Dec. 26 to reconstruct the intersection with Kathleen Road. Traffic will be detoured from Kathleen Road east onto Polk Ave., then south onto Cheatwood Drive to Kathleen Oaks.

Old Bartow/Eagle Lake Road Closure Extended

Bartow, FL-- Previously scheduled to reopen Dec. 11, Old Bartow/Eagle Lake Road in Bartow will remain closed from Wilson Avenue to Crossover Road until March 15.

Reopening will now coincide with the completion of Polk County’s Ernest M. Smith Boulevard project connecting U.S. Highway 17 to U.S. Highway 98 at Bartow Ford. Traffic will continue to be detoured along U.S. Highway 17.

Polk Co., FL-- The Florida Department of Transportations says commuters should watch for nightly, single lane road closures through the eastbound Central barrier Toll Plaza near milepost 12, as well as for full-depth reconstruction of the road between mileposts 15 and 16.

Bartow, Florida – Winter Haven Area Transit (WHAT), Citrus Connection and Polk County Transit Services (PCTS) will offer its annual Free Ride Friday Nov. 23. 

Free Ride Friday gives riders an opportunity to use the bus system free of charge on Black Friday to conduct Christmas shopping, visit family or just to get to wherever they need to go for any reason. It also provides an opportunity for people who have never tried the public transportation system to try it for free.

Lane closures for Eloise Loop Road at Rattlesnake Road

Winter Haven, Florida -- To avoid disruption to the Chain of Lakes Elementary School schedule and daily peak-hour traffic, Polk County has scheduled paving the intersection of County Road 540A (Eloise Loop Road) and County Road 653 (Rattlesnake Road) during the weekend of Nov. 3 - 4, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

The weekend schedule will eliminate lane closures during the week and allow for timely completion of the paving.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution, obey traffic signs, and allow more time for trips through area.
