Bartow, FL -- Bartow police want folks to be thankful for their health and safety this year, so they plan to beef-up seatbelt enforcement around turkey day.

The Bartow Police Department is kicking off a new round of "Click It or Ticket Enforcement", they recently announced.

The increased efforts and eyes on Bartow-area roads will begin immediately and run through December 1, 2013.

Bartow, FL -- - Thanksgiving is a week away and it's one of the busiest holiday weekends for air travel.

But each day a traveler waits to book their airfare, the more they can expect to pay per ticket.

"Now is the time to book an airline ticket," said Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman, The Auto Club Group.

"Airfares will increase each day as Thanksgiving weekend approaches. Even if current ticket prices seem high, they're much cheaper than they will be a few days or weeks from now," said Brady.

Lakeland, FL -  Lakeland Police Officers will increase their patrols to specifically look for drunk drivers on local roadways around Halloween. 

According to officials, they'll be stepping up enforcement starting Friday, October 25 and lasting through Friday, November 1.

Lakeland, Florida  -- Starting in October, downtown Lakeland will offer a new type of metering system in the parking lot at Munn Park and Lot D located at 200 N. Kentucky Avenue.

The pay by space meters are solar powered and they make paying for parking more convenient than ever. The new pay by space meters accept nickels, dimes, quarters and dollar bills, but they also accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover credit and debit cards.

Polk County, Florida-- Motorists can expect several lane closures throughout Polk County next week.

Starting Monday, Sept. 9:

  • Duke Energy will be replacing poles and power lines along a 1.25-mile stretch of the eastbound travel lane of CR 630 just west of Fort Meade. Work will require intermittent lane closures for three to five weeks.
