Bartow, FL -- If you've noticed the price of gasoline spiking again around Bartow, you're right. And it's been happening quickly.

Retail gas prices in the Southeast increased 10 cents from just last week and are expected to rise throughout the month, according to AAA.

Since July 4, motorists have seen prices at the pump increase after a steady two-month decline.

Upward pressure on the market pushed oil to close at its highest settlement since May, say experts, and that has a lot to do with it.

Plant fundraiser to support Newspaper For Students Program

Bartow, Florida-- The fundraiser for the Newspaper For Students program kicked off today in Bartow at Bartow Flowers and Antiques on Main. It will continue through tomorrow at the Eagle Ridge Mall parking lot in Lake Wales.

The address of the mall is 451 Eagle Ridge Drive. 

According to the Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce:

"There will be a sale only $4.00 for one Gallon Trees available in red, pink, purple, and white with limited quantity.

All proceeds from the sale will go to the Newspaper For Students Program.

Lakeland Electric bill going up

Lakeland, Florida -- The Lakeland City Commission in a specially called commission meeting voted to increase the fuel charge for Lakeland Electric customers $3.70 per 1,000 kWh, effective for meters read on or after July 2, 2012.

The new fuel charge will be $42.30 per 1,000 kWh. Starting July 2 Lakeland Electric residential customers will pay $101.72 for 1,000 kWh of electricity.
