Bartow starts week with plunging gas prices

Bartow, FL -- It's the second day into th work week, and by now, you probablly noticed a steep drop in fuel prices in the Bartow area.

Retail gasoline prices all over the Southeast decreased another 12 cents a gallon from last week.

Good news, too. Pump prices are expected to continue their decline even as Hurricane Sandy threatens the East Coast.

"While motorists would expect gas prices to surge with Hurricane Sandy headed for the East Coast, the storm has not yet caused prices to spike," said Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman, The Auto Club Group in Tampa.

Hair cuts for a good cause in Polk County this week

Bartow, FL -- Folks from all over the region are invited to take part in Lakeland Hair Salon's 4th Annual Hair for Hope.

Michael Rose Hair Designs is hosting what they refer to as a truly "hairoic" cut-a-thon to benefit women battling cancer.

Participants have to be ready to part with at least 8 inches of their hair, which will be donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths and used to make wigs that are distributed free through American Cancer Society wig banks nationwide to women undergoing cancer treatment.

Bartow, Florida -- Folks in Polk County have the opportunity to take advantage of two medicare seminars taking place on Tuesday and Saturday of this week.

With so many changes in healthcare these days, there are bound to be plenty of questions.

Organizers warn that space is limited.

The seminars take place Tuesday, September 25 and Saturday, September 29 at 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the Florida Blue Retail Center.

Lakeland Electric Fuel Charge increase to go into effect October 1

Lakeland, Florida-- The Lakeland City Commission voted to increase the fuel charge for Lakeland Electric customers 50 cents per 1,000 kWh effective for meters read on or after October 1, 2012. The new fuel charge will be $42.80 per 1,000 kWh.

Bartow to leave booze sales law alone

Bartow, Florida --Bartow city leaders have decided to leave the city's alcohol sales law just as it is and has been for years.

About two weeks ago, city leaders asked for an update from the Bartow City Attorney's Office.

They had raised questions about some of the ordinance's language when it comes to alcohol volume, retail sales on Sundays,and enforcement.
