Department to share entire day's police work on Twitter

Winter Haven, Florida -- In what they're calling a "virtual ride-along" with officers, Winter Haven police plan to post constant updates online during an entire 12-hour shift of service.

Officers will be live-tweeting how they're handling crimes and calls for service from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 12th.

The posts will go up as they happen on Twitter. You can follow the day-long event by following the Winter Haven Police Department's Twitter account, @WHPoliceDept.

Bartow, Florida -- Have a hard time hearing? You may qualify for a free phone. FTRI Phone Distribution is taking place this week in Bartow. 

FTRI offers a variety of amplified telephones to meet the need of persons with a mild, moderate, or severe hearing loss.

These amplified telephones are available at all of the 24 Regional Distribution Centers located throughout the state. The free amplified phone distribution is for Florida residents who have a hearing loss and/or a speech problem.

Bring your Kindle, Nook, iPad, or other eReader device to the library this Thursday and they will help you with the basics of getting eBooks to read!

Also, you can learn how to effectively use the OverDrive lending system for checking out library eBooks.

Bartow, Florida -- In February, Jesse Keen Elementary STEAM Academy students got full exposure to the engineering field at USF's 41st Annual Engineering Expo.

During the outing, students got to see first hand how important engineering is in their everyday lives. They also got to participate in interactive activities by USF students organizations, explore engineering departments, research laboratories and meet with local engineers.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Park Services department has announced the launch of their new, free mobile application, which will serve as an interactive guide for users on the go at any of Florida's 171 parks, trails and historic sites.

Lakeland, FL--  The city of Lakeland has gone mobile! According to city representatives, they have just released a mobile app called Link2Lakeland that can be downloaded on Apple, Android and Windows platforms. 

They say the app features a mobile version of the City’s Citizens Action Center that serves as a central communications point for citizens to report a concern, make a suggestion or ask questions.
