Public hearing to discuss '12-'13 Code of Student Conduct

Polk County, Florida-- The Polk County School Board will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 31 to consider changes to he 2012-2013 Code of Student Conduct. 

"The public hearing will take place during the school board meeting, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. It will take place in the School Board Auditorium located in the Polk County Public Schools District Office," Polk County Public Schools said in a release.

The Polk County Public Schools Office is located at 1915 South Floral Avenue, Bartow, FL 33830.

Polk County Public Schools Students Build Robots at Talon Robotics

Polk County, Florida-- This week nearly 200 Polk County Public Schools students are participating in Talon Robotics at Polk State College Winter Haven and Lakeland campuses.

The event is comprised of multifaceted science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs that provide advanced and challenging opportunities for students to improve their skill sets in the field of technology.

Fieldtrips included in the program also allow students to connect what they’re learning in the classroom with real world examples.

FSBA names Polk County School Board a “Master Board”

Polk County, Florida-- Polk County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Sherrie B. Nickell and Polk County School Board members have received the distinction of “Master Board.” 

The Florida School Boards Association (FSBA) awards the distinction to Florida School Boards whose members have attended the prescribed 22 hours of training over the past year.

Winter Haven, Florida--  Please be advised that on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, the Polk County School Board will hold a public hearing to address charter school contracts.

The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. during the regularly scheduled meeting of the Polk County School Board. 

The public hearing will take place in the Polk County School Board Auditorium at the Polk County Public Schools District Office, 1915 South Floral Avenue, Bartow, FL 33830.

According to the Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce, the Open House allows those touring to meet faculty, complete applications, ,meet with Financial Aid, get stared on FASFA, tour the campus, find out about student life, and even enter to win a scholarship.

Polk teachers honored for excellence in economics education

Lakeland, Florida-- "First, I would have to say my favorite teacher was my mother, because she helped me to understand what I did not understand in the classroom,” says Dr. Antionette Wilcox, this year’s Charles Harper Economic Educator of the Year. 

In her classroom Dr. Wilcox tries to find the balance between teaching life lessons and the fundamentals of economics. She is a proponent of project-learning, an educational technique in which students are given real-world problems to solve.
