Lakeland, Florida -- Three lucky students from area middle and high schools were named the winners of an art contest put on by the K9s for Cops organization.
Residents of the Estates at Carpenters narrowed down the field of 50 submissions from 11 to 18 years olds down to 10, which were then narrowed down to the top 3 by the Polk County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit. From there, Sheriff Grady Judd made the final decision on first, second and third place winners.
Polk County, Florida -- Community members will visit Polk County Public Schools on Wednesday, November 14 to share their professional experiences and interests with students as part of the Great American Teach-In.

Lakeland, FL-- George Jenkins High School will hold a Distracted Driving, "Put it Down" Assembly for teen drivers this Friday.
According to the Dori Slosberg Foundation in partnership with Geico, Florida traffic crashes are the number one killer of teens. Reps say in 2010, 26,848 traffic crashes in Florida involved teens; 144 teens died and 18,543 teens suffered injuries.
Polk County, FL-- Polk County Public Schools’ students who graduate with a special diploma now have an opportunity to learn employable skills on site at The Lakeland Center. Students with special needs will be introduced to every job aspect of The Lakeland Center and will have an opportunity to learn janitorial, customer service and culinary skills. This program becomes the first to have a classroom located in a business the District has partnered with.
