Temporary lane closure: Griffin Elementary installs bus loop

Lakeland, Florida-- Kathleen Road in Lakeland will have a lane closed at Griffin Elementary,  which is located .25 mile north of Griffin Road (CR 582) .

The closure will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 16, and will take place to install a bus loop.

The Kathleen Road project should be completed and the road reopened by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 20.

Commuters should avoid this area for the duration of the project.

Family and friends listened as contestants gave speeches on the topic: How My Optimism Helps Me Overcome Obstacles at the Paradise Lakes Community Building.

Polk County, Florida-- Some talented Polk County 5th graders recently took center-stage as they were presented with the Tag Art Awards of Distinction.

They are among the hundreds of public school students from nearly 70 elementary schools who competed for the distinction.

Polk County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Sherrie B. Nickell attended the ceremony at Florida Southern College’s Branscomb Auditorium.

About Face awards given to students who do an About Face

Polk County, Florida-- Middle and high school students were recently honored at the annual About Face Awards for making positive changes in their lives.

Teachers and staff at individual schools or sites nominated students who are making positive and noticeable improvements in grade point average, attendance, general disposition and attitude toward school or themselves.

About 300 people attended the March 4 event held at Nora Mayo Hall in Winter Haven. Honorees were joined by the mentors who helped them make positive changes and turnarounds.

Bartow High IB Students are the winners of the Florida Spanish State Conference. Last week, the teens beat out the competition to win first place in Division 6A/7A. They competed in the areas of impromptu speaking, declamation and play.

Bartow, Florida-- According to a Polk County Public Schools release, parents are being asked to complete and return pre-registration forms for the 2012-2013 school year. Printed pre-registration forms will be sent home with students on Thursday, April 5, 2012.
