Polk Video Awards took place Tuesday night

Lakeland, Florida --The Polk Video Awards took place Tuesday, May 1 at Victory Church located at 1401 Griffin Road, Lakeland. 

Attendees viewed student-produced videos that included documentaries, animations, music videos and school news broadcasts.

The elementary awards event began at 5 p.m., and the middle school awards began around 7.

Lakeland, Florida -- The Board of Governors of the State University System of Florida has opened the application process for appointees who will be members of the charter Board of Trustees for Florida Polytechnic University in Lakeland.

This is a national search, and applicants, by law, do not need to live within close proximity of a Florida public university to serve as a member of any Board of Trustees.

Polk County, Florida--Dark clouds showered the crowd with rain at the 3rd Annual Green Celebration Concert and Showcase. But that didn’t dampen the spirits of students participating in last Friday’s event held in observance of Earth Day. Earth Day 2012 took place on April 22.

Students from Lincoln Avenue Academy were among those who participated in the creation of a display  that explained what each of their respective schools does to go green, and how these actions are turned into lessons for the staff, students and parents.

George Jenkins High hosts Inaugural Academy Summit

Lakeland, Florida -- Business partners, future business partners and community members gathered at George Jenkins High School Auditorium earlier this month for the Inaugural 2012 George Jenkins High School Academy Summit.

The summit featured keynote speakers, academy presentations and panel discussions in hopes of encouraging community members to take an active role in preparing students for post-secondary education or employment.

He believes that if you wake up in the morning and tell yourself you are going to fail, that’s what you will do. But say you will succeed and success will come your way. 

During the 2012 Florida State High School Drill Competition, he proved this way of thinking works well.
