Friday Fest gets beachy

Bartow, FL -- Make plans now to go to the beach during Main Street Bartow Beach. Downtown’s next Friday Fest on July 15 features a beach-themed street party from 6 - 9 p.m. along east Main Street and Central Avenue.

This month’s host is Spath Jewelers.

Don your flip-flops and tool on down to check out the live music by The Peanut Butter Company. This eclectic and popular band’s members call themselves, “the hardest working oldies rock and roll band in central Florida”.

Polk County receives federal EPA grant

Polk County, FL -- Ten Florida communities were awarded $7 million in brownfields grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Polk County one of them.

Florida received more grant funding than any other state in the nation to help communities revitalize properties environmentally, restore economic vitality and alleviate potential health risks.

Polk County received two brownfields revolving loan fund grants totaling $1,000,000 will be used to provide loans and subgrants to support cleanup activities for sites contaminated with hazardous substances and petroleum in Polk County and the Cities of Mulberry and Fort Meade.

Lake Wales, FL -- Welling Park on Lake Easy is closed through Sept. 19 to install a public boat ramp.

The park is located on Muncie Road on the south shore of Lake Easy in Babson Park.

Public meeting to discuss Third Street Trail and road expansion

Winter Haven, FL -- The City of Winter Haven is having a public presentation on Tuesday, June 7 to discuss the expansion of Chain of Lakes Trail and Third Street SW Roadway.

The expansion of the trail will go from downtown to Avenue G and U.S. 17 SW.  Currently, Third Street SW from Magnolia Avenue to Avenue G SW is a four-lane roadway, which was formerly U.S. Highway 17.

The City was awarded a $715,083 grant from FDOT to complete the following as part of the downtown revitalization efforts, the trail network and the beautification work:

  • Reduce the existing four-lane roadway to two lanes
  • Construct a trail on the east side of the roadway connecting South Central Park to Avenue G (Citi Centre Area)
  • Provide a six-foot sidewalk and on-street parking on the west side of the roadway
  • Install landscaping and drainage features along the corridor
