DiOGi Dog Park to close for maintenance

Bartow, Florida -  DiOGi Dog Park will be closed for routine maintenance on Thursday, September 27.

The park will reopen at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, September 28.

DiOGi Dog Park was opened in 2007 in memory of Deputy Sheriff Vernon "Matt" Williams and his K-9 partner, DiOGi.

The park features big dog and little dog areas, agility equipment and shaded areas. The park is located on three fenced-in acres at Loyce E. Harpe Park, 500 West Carter Road in Mulberry. Admission is free.

Bartow, Florida -- The Polk County History Center will celebrate its recent rebranding and the long-awaited unveiling of its exterior signage at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18 in the 1926 Historic Courtroom. 

The History Center is also dedicating the Polk Proud mural created in honor of Polk’s Sesquicentennial celebration.

Board of County Commissioners Chairman Sam Johnson, Sheriff Grady Judd and Historical Commission Chairman Lloyd Harris are scheduled to speak at the event. Other county commissioners may also be in attendance.

Bartow Public Library is beginning a new series at the library that’s all about making science fun! On Aug. 30 at 4:30 p.m., come out as they make carbonated rockets and enjoy a cold soda.

Bartow, Florida -- Almost anywhere you go in the City of Bartow, your ride may soon feel a bit smoother.

For those who've been living with potholes and bumpy streets, a massive re-paving project in the city is a welcomed sight.

Next week, the city will start re-paving dozens of streets at a cost of almost a million dollars.

Preventing crime through community partnerships

Lakeland, Florda - Beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting through noon, on Saturday, September 15, area law enforcement agencies and members of the Winter Haven, Lake Wales and Lakeland NAACP Branches, will host "Preventing Crime through Community Partnerships," a Crime Prevention Expo.

The free event will be held at Polk State College, Winter Haven campus, 999 Avenue H, NE Winter Haven. 

Attendees will receive information on Gang Awareness, Drug Prevention/Awareness, Cyber Safety, and Bullying.

Public hearing on final budget and millage rates

Polk County, Florida-- A public hearing is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 4 in regards to the final budget and millage rates for fiscal year 2012- 2013 in polk County.

The public hearing will take place at 5 p.m. in the School Board Auditorium, located in the Polk County Public Schools District Office, 1915 South Floral Avenue, Bartow, FL 33803.

Considering this hearing is "public", all members of the public are welcome.

Winter Haven, Florida-- The Winter Haven Library invites you to join them for an afternoon movie that the entire family can enjoy!

The Chain of Lakes City website has says the following of the event:

"Saturday Afternoon Movies take place on the second and fourth Saturday of each month at 2 p.m. (*unless otherwise noted) in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Movie titles are intended for a family audience and typically have a rating of G, PG and sometimes PG-13. Admission is FREE and refreshments are available for a small charge."
