Genshaft and USF Polytechnic's chancellor, David Touchton, answered questions from the group about Poly becoming the state's 12th university.

Lakeland, FL -- Mayor Gow Fields invites local residents to attend the next Mornings with the Mayor event at 7 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 9 at Fred's Southern Kitchen, 2120 Harden Boulevard Lakeland.

Mayor Fields will make his remarks and take questions from the audience around 7:30 a.m. after they have had a chance to go through the breakfast buffet.

Mornings with the Mayor allows residents an informal and comfortable forum in which to meet with the mayor to talk about issues, ask questions, voice concerns and offer comments or suggestions.

Bartow, FL -- The Polk County School Board will meet in a special meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 22 in the School Board Auditorium at the district administrative office, 1915 South Floral Ave., Bartow, FL, 33830. 

The purpose of the meeting is reorganization of the school board and to conduct school board business.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m.

November 28 Special Budget Workshop

The Polk County School Board will conduct a Special Budget Workshop on Monday, Nov. 28 at Winter Haven High School, Media Center Small Conference Room, 600 6th Street SE, Winter Haven. The work session will begin at 9 a.m.

The purpose is to hear a presentation by Dr. Jim Hamilton to the School Board on how the state’s education budget is constructed, how school districts receive and manage funding, and what the outlook is so far in terms of the state education budget.

PCPS board members to attend FDRCCF in Lakeland

Please be advised more than one Polk County Public Schools (PCPS) Board Member will be participating in the general meeting of the Frederick Douglas Republican Club of Central Florida (FDRCCF) on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting will be held at the Larry Jackson Public Library on North Florida Ave. in Lakeland.

The meeting is open to the public.

Lakeland, FL -- The votes have been counted. Keith Merritt has won the race for the Northeast commission seat.

He received 55.4% of the vote. Commissioner Phillip Walker will retain his Northwest commission seat. He received 51.9% of the vote.
