George Jenkins High wins state veterinary assisting competition
Lakeland’s George Jenkins High placed first in a state FFA competition testing students in veterinary assisting skills. Thirty-six high schools throughout the state competed in Plant City for the state championship held this month.
The competition is designed to inspire interest in learning activities associated with veterinary science. It tested student knowledge about livestock and companion animals within the veterinary profession.
The competition consisted of written questions on animals in varying topics including veterinary medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. The students also competed in a breed test identifying 20 breeds. The students identified species of feline, horse, goat, sheep and rabbit.
