'Pet Connection' interactive webcast series debuts with holiday show

Polk County, FL -- Polk’s Government Television (PGTV), in partnership with Orchid Springs Animal Hospital, announces the debut of a new interactive webcast series especially for animal lovers.  “Pet Connection with Dr. Mitsie Vargas” kicks off with a holiday theme on Tuesday, Dec. 6, from 7-8 p.m.

Unlike with a television show, internet viewers determine the content of the program, with each webcast having a specific theme or topic.

Polk County, FL -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office confirmed today, Aug. 31 the third positive case of rabies in Polk County this year.

According to police, on Aug. 24, the resident's dog killed a bat and brought it into the home, located on Harvard Street in Lakeland.

Lakeland, FL - The Polk County Animal Control reunited a dog and his owners after 5 years apart.

On Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, the Polk County Animal Control Section received a call regarding a stray dog in the area of Fort Socrum Village Boulevard, Lakeland.

Animal Control Officers responded and took the dog back to the PCSO Animal Control Shelter. As with all stray animals, the dog was scanned for a possible microchip-it had one. The owner was contacted. "Cane," for Candy Cane, had been missing for five years.

Second rabies case this year hits Polk County

Lakeland, FL -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office confirmed today, Aug. 17, the second positive case of rabies in the county this year.

According to police, on Aug. 11, the resident's dogs found a bat in their backyard on Shimmering Drive in Lakeland.  Both dogs attacked the bat and killed it.

The bat taken by animal control officers and was sent for rabies testing. The State Laboratory confirmed today it was positive for rabies.

Largest Simultaneous Dog Wedding attempt Saturday

Lake Wales, FL -- On Saturday, June 25, The Dogs BoWoW dog bakery boutique will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Simultaneous Dog Wedding at their Holy Moly Mutt-ramony Event.

The event will be held at Eagle Ridge Mall on HWY 27 in Lake Wales at 6 p.m.

The goal is to "wed" 300 pair of dogs as Canine Companions or Fur-ever Friends in one mass ceremony. The current record stands at 178 pairs of dogs set back in 2007.  Several attempts have been made unsuccessfully to beat it. 

Anyone who would like to volunteer for the event needs to be willing to write a statement to the effect that they were witnesses of the event for proof to be sent to Guinness.  Volunteers need to meet at the registration tent at 4 p.m. on Saturday for instructions and a free gift.
