Lakeland Police Officer Steve Strickland took first place in the 2011 Southeast Police Motorcycle Training Competition Road King Division on April 9, in Hollywood, Florida.

There were over 90 competitors in the Road King Division. The competition involves two obstacle courses events. One event is timed and the other is not timed. Officer Strickland ran both courses without penalty and was successful in taking first place.

Officer Strickland also won the Battle of the Beach Daytona Boss Slow Ride competition in both 2009 and 2010.

Officer Strickland says these types of competition are good because they motivate officers to train harder. This training pays off in safety on the job.

Chief Womack, “The Lakeland Police Department is proud of Officer Strickland for his dedication to the job and his outstanding performance in competition. This achievement is a positive reflection on Officer Strickland as well as the Lakeland Police Department.”
