Mulberry has water again

Mulberry, Florida - At Mulberry's only dental office Tuesday morning, no one was opening wide. With little or no water coming from the instruments, office staff had to make cancellation after cancellation.

And even when water flows again, it will have to be boiled for several days, which Dr. Masoud Farzaneh says will be as painful for his business as a toothache.

"Time is very important for a small business - especially right now - every day is important for small business," says the dentist.

Local schools were also taught a lesson in water supply. The Polk County district shipped in bottled water to the four Mulberry schools.

Sue Allums, the lunchroom manager at Purcell Elementary, learned of the potential problem last night and quickly changed the menu to PB & J sandwiches. "You try to keep items on hand in case of an emergency that you can fall back on," says Allums.

Sheriff: High school student hits, kills grandmother

Investigators say a 17-year-old female Kathleen High School student was driving a 2004 Red Dodge truck northbound on Chase Road just north of Settler's Creek Drive in Lakeland early Monday morning.  The sheriff's office says she hit Francois Simon as Simon walked northbound along Chase road.

Her oldest son, James Jean-Rene says his mother had heart problems and wore a pace maker. She walked every morning to stay healthy. James says, "She's the most lovable person you can ever met that would do anything for anybody. Now I don't have a mother anymore. Somebody was being careless."

Southeast wins a double-overtime thriller 21-20

It was a packed house in Bradenton tonight as the Southeast Seminoles were playing host to the 10-1 Winter Haven Blue Devils.  And right from the bat you could tell that these were two evenly matched teams as both teams were able to drive on one another but just could seem to find the endzone.

Southeast eventually drew first blood before half...but it wasn't long before Winter Haven evened it up with a score of their own.  However they missed the extra point and were left trailing 6-7.

In the 3rd, Southeast rattled off one more score to make it 14-6.  But once the 4th quarter came around, Winter Haven knew it was their last chance and they marched all the way down the field, finishing with a TD pass from QB Levi Borders. With the score now 12-14 they had no choice but to go for two, which they successfully completed with about 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter.
