Former soldier sentenced to 5 years in prison for robberies

Tampa, Florida -- He's a former green beret and bronze star recipient who has also plead guilty to a pair of armed robberies in the Bay Area.

However, today at his sentencing, the attorneys for Gabe Brown asked the court to have mercy on him as he suffers from PTSD.

Gabe Brown, entered the army at 17-years-old and quickly climbed up the ranks. He had tours in Afghanistan and Iraq and when he returned home, his ex-wife says he changed.

"He's a loving man, a great father. He's very oriented. He just fell into some depression and PTSD," says Maria Suarez, ex-wife.

Majority vote 'No Confidence' in Lakeland PD chief

Lakeland, Florida - Both Lakeland Police Department Union and civilian employees took a No Confidence vote that focused on Police Chief Lisa Womack's ability to lead the department.

Out of 183 West Central Police Benevolent Association members, 160 members voted, which resulted in a split decision.

Eighty union members gave the chief a "No Confidence" vote, while 80 others thought the chief was doing a fine job.

"The fifty-fifty split ... it's hard to explain ... it's interesting," said West Central PBA president Nick Marolda.

Winter Haven woman arrested for grand theft auto

Polk County, Florida -- A woman was tracked down by a helicopter and police vehicles after she stole a car from an elderly man and drove it all around Winter Haven. 

Armed and dangerous suspect wanted in Lakeland

Lakeland, Florida -- The Lakeland Police Department is looking for a man who has attacked and shot multiple people in the North Iowa area in Lakeland. 

The incidents began on January 19, after Willie Williams and his cousin got in a fight at the Elks Lodge on Texas Avenue. William's accidentally stepped on the suspect, later identified as Sylvester Smith, Jr., and the fight moved outside. Smith walked away from the fight briefly and returned with a gun, shooting Williams five times. Williams is now in critical condition.

Polk deputy arrested for offering preferential treatment

Polk County, Florida -- A Polk County Deputy has been arrested after offering preferential treatment to women he arrested in exchange for physical contact. 

Detectives arrested Polk County Deputy Sheriff Julio Jose Garcia after two women said Garcia propositioned them to expose their bodies or allow him to touch their bodies in exchange for preferential treatment. Two different women reported this activity regarding Garcia on two separate occasions.

Grow house suspect said he wanted to smoke joint before arrest

Polk County, Florida -- A home in Poinciana was busted for being used a a marijuana grow house. 

An undercover detective served a search warrant at a home on Reindeer Drive based on information Poinciana residence based on information they received that it was being used as a marijuana grow house.

Judge denies 'stand your ground' in man's death

BARTOW, Florida (AP) - A Florida judge has rejected a woman's "stand your ground" claim in the shooting death of her husband.

Circuit Judge Catherine Combee concluded in an order written earlier in January that the self-defense claim by 57-year-old Sheree Peters is "not credible."
