Polk student sends school Facebook message threatening to blow it up

Winter Haven, Florida -- A 14-year-old middle school student on leave was arrested Monday for sending a bomb threat in a Facebook message to his school.

Winter Haven Police say the Denison Middle School student sent the private message via mobile device saying, "I'm gonna bomb this school," to the school's official Facebook page on Jan. 24 and it was picked up by school administrators.

The student is currently at an alternative school but was scheduled to return to Denison on Feb. 27.

Winter Haven man attacks ex-girlfriend, family

Winter Haven, Florida -- A Winter Haven man is behind bars after police say he attacked his ex-girlfriend, her adult children, and her elderly mother in their home.

When officers arrived at the home on Saturday, Jan. 25, they reportedly found Anthony B. Hall armed with a large kitchen knife. 

Missing Polk County man found safe

Lakeland, Florida -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office has canceled the Silver Alert for a missing and endangered 75-year-old Lakeland man.

Dean McGibbon of Lakeland was found in Valdosta, Georgia. His was found safe and in good health.

2 charged with human trafficking

Winter Haven, Florida -- Two people have been arrested for human trafficking after authorities say they confined a 21-year-old woman against her will in a home in Winter Haven.

Deputies located the victim during a well-being check, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. The victim reportedly told the deputies she was beaten and held against her will.

After an investigation and extensive interviews, detectives arrested 21-year-old Marisol Rodriguez and charged her with one count Human Trafficking and one count Principal to Human Trafficking. 

Lakeland Police Chief Womack resigns

Lakeland, Florida - Lisa Womack resigned as
Chief of the Lakeland Police Department on Friday afternoon effective May 1, 2014.

"After full and careful consideration, I
have come to the conclusion that it is in the best interest of me and my family
for me to transition out of my position as Chief of Police for the Lakeland
Police Department," said a portion of Chief Womack's resignation letter.

Davenport, Florida - Of all the horse fields in Polk County, there are plenty of studs... but only one has the chance to become golf's next thoroughbred.

At 16 years old, Sam Horsfield is the sixth-ranked amateur golfer in the world. Sponsors are drooling for the opportunity to sign him, and so are sports agents and major collegiate programs. 

Commissioner withdraws support for Lakeland PD Chief

Lakeland, Florida - The day after a no-confidence vote against Lakeland Police Chief Lisa Womack, one commissioner has reversed his stance on what should happen to her.

"I feel bad for the chief. I'm not absolutely certain that she's at fault," said Commissioner Keith Merritt.
