Lakeland, FL -- A motorcycle accident in Lakeland killed both riders Monday night on North Chesnut Road and Ivey Lane.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, around 7:24 p.m., Raykesha Corbett, of Lakeland, was backing out of a driveway onto North Chestnut Road and got in the way of the motorcycle that was heading south on the same road.

To avoid a collision, the driver of the motorcycle, 38-year-old Michael Mitts, applied the brakes, lost control of the bike as it overturned onto its right side finally sliding into the left side of the car.

Both Mitts and his passenger, 30-year-old Laura Nalley, were ejected from the motorcycle. Nalley, of Lakeland, was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident; Mitts, of Lakeland, was not.  Both received fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Corbett, 20, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Her 10-year-old passenger was unharmed.

Authorities are still investigating the crash.
