Polk SO might step into Lakeland Police scandal

Lakeland, Florida -- Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd might be called in to help the Lakeland Police Department recover from its recent sex scandal.

Polk's Legislative Delegation sent Mayor Gow Fields a letter, asking that he invite Judd to work with City officials to make "proper reforms to the department."

Last week allegations came out that a female employee had sex while on-duty -- sometimes against her will -- for years in the Lakeland Police Department.

On Monday, Lakeland Police Chief Lisa Womack says the agency is moving in the right direction toward rooting out all problems.

"This bell cannot be un-rung," said Womack. "But I can make sure that
those who have dishonored the Lakeland Police Department badge and
uniform will no longer be Lakeland Police officers."

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says it will not have a response on Tuesday to the letter sent to Mayor Fields.
