Go! Diego Go! Polk K-9 tracks wanted suspect | News
Lake Wales, FL - The Polk County Sheriff's office says man who drove into an Apartment building and then ran off is in jail thanks to their Bloodhound K-9, Diego.
Deputies say 30-year-old Zachary Herring crashed a Chevrolet Suburban into an apartment off Elm Avenue in Lake Wales, and then left the SUV and ran off.
PCSO deputies in the area quickly established a perimeter around the scene. Diego began his track by sniffing the driver's seat of the abandoned SUV, and tracked the scent to an apartment two buildings away. They say Herring was hiding at a friend's in that building.
After his arrest, Herring admitted to driving the SUV and fleeing the scene.
The victims inside the apartment Herring crashed into were unharmed.
Herring was found to have two active felony warrants, and was booked into the Polk County Jail for additional charges, including Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage.
