Rear-end crash leaves young driver in critical condition | News
Winter Haven, Florida-- A young driver is in critical condition after he was rear-ended by another young driver near Polk State College very early Tuesday morning.
Officials say 22-year-old Garrett Putnam was driving his 2000 Camaro along U.S. 98 around 3:30 a.m., when 21-year-old David Breit struck him from behind at a high rate of speed.
Putnam suffered critical injuries to his neck as a result of the crash. Though he underwent surgery at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Wednesday's reports say he remains in critical condition.
Deputies say the cause of the crash is still under investigation, and charges are pending against Breit as they wait for evidence samples taken that morning to be processed.
Officials say Breit is cooperating in the investigation.
