Cops: Man dies, friend lies, wife tells truth | News
Lakeland, FL-- Polk County deputies have made an arrest in relation to the investigation of a dead body found in a local park Thursday night.
The body of Brian Sullivan, 24, was found lying on the Shore at Saddle Creek Park just before 9:15 p.m. on Thursday night with no visible harm to his body, reports say.
When officials contacted Sullivan's friend, 22-year-old Darrick Mills, he reportedly told them he last saw Sullivan around 1 a.m. on Thursday morning.
Mills said the two were at the park in Mills' SUV, when Sullivan got out and walked away- never to be seen again.
But Mills' wife, Destanie Hartley, had a different story to tell.
Hartley told officials that her husband called her in a panic Thursday morning. During the call, he explained that he picked Sullivan up from the "Boots & Buckle" because Sullivan was "high on pills."
Mills recounted that he took Sullivan to the park, where they both went to sleep, but Sullivan never woke up.
When Mills awoke, he realized that Sullivan had died, and "had been dead for quite some time," reports say.
That's when he panicked, pulled Sullivan out of his SUV and placed his body near the lake.
According to reports, it was only after Hartley told officials this story that Mills admitted to being too afraid to tell the truth.
A medical examiner conducted an autopsy, but officials say they are still waiting for the results of the toxicology report to identify Sullivan's cause of death.
