Hwy 60 in Polk reopens after deadly crash | News
Indian Lake Estates, Florida -- Two people are dead after a car crashed head-on with a tractor trailer Wednesday morning. Highway 60 in Polk County was shut down for much of the morning and afternoon, but has since reopened.
Authorities say the crash occurred sometime between 6 and 6:15 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Hwy 60, just west of Indian Lake Estates.
A preliminary investigation indicates the car was driving the wrong way in the eastbound lanes when it collided head-on with a tractor trailer truck. Both vehicles suffered severe damage and two people were reportedly killed.
Shortly before 2:30, the highway was reopened in both directions, but have been reduced from two lanes in each direction to one lane, as road repairs are still needed. Repairs are expected to be complete by Thursday.
The names of the deceased have not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
