Stanley Named Interim Director of Economic Development

Bartow, FL -  County Manager Jim Freeman announced today that Mary Jane Stanley, CEcD, has been named the interim director of economic development, effective immediately, while the Central Florida Development Council Inc. conducts a nationwide search for an executive director.

Stanley, a professional certified economic developer, has more than 30 years of experience in both the public and private sectors. Currently, she is the president of Stanley Advisory Associates, which specializes in a variety of economic development and downtown development areas, including strategic planning; organizational management and restructuring; and business development and retention strategies. She is also the learning and development facilitator for the Florida Institute of Government at the University of South Florida.

Prior to starting her consulting company, Stanley served for 10 years as president and chief executive officer of the Pasco Economic Development Council.

“I am very pleased to have an economic development professional with Ms. Stanley’s experience for this important interim assignment,” Freeman said. “She will provide stable and effective leadership to the economic development staff and will assist the CFDC board in continuing the progress toward achieving private sector leadership of Polk County’s economic development program.”

Stanley has been actively involved in the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) for more than 15 years and currently serves as the vice president of the education and certification committee. She has also published numerous articles on economic development and the certification process.

Stanley has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and a Master of Business Administration in real estate development and management from Nova Southeastern University. In addition, she is past chairman of the Florida Economic Development Council and in 2008 was named economic development professional of the year in Florida.
