Polk Co. FL-- The Florida Department of Transportation released their Road Watch Report for this week. 

According to the report, the following roadways will undergo maintinance or construction projects.

Commuters are advised to drive with caution though these areas, or plan alternative routes. It is also encouraged to allow for extra travel time. 

 I-4: From the Hillsborough County Line to the Osceola County Line: Maintenance project --- The contractor will be repairing the cable barrier and guardrail on I-4. There will be no lane closures.  Motorists should use caution while in the work zone.

US 98: South of Manor Drive to north of County Road 540A and US 98, Manor Drive to Old Bartow/Eagle Lake Road: Construction project --- The improvements under this contract consist of widening US 98 to a six lane, divided highway from just south of Manor Drive in Bartow to just north of County Road 540A. The scope of work will include removal of old asphalt (milling) and resurfacing of the roadway, roadway widening, installing storm water management facilities, curb, sidewalk, traffic signals, lighting and pavement markings. The week of Sunday, December 23, 2012, the contractor will be performing final miscellaneous activities throughout the project corridor. Weather permitting, this work is anticipated for one week. This project is anticipated for completion in fall 2012. The contractor is Lane Construction.

US 98: From Brooks Street to Edgewood Drive in Lakeland: Construction project --- Improvements being made as part of this project include widening the roadway from four to six lanes, removing old asphalt (milling) and resurfacing  the roadway, drainage improvements, street lighting, signalization, bike lanes, sidewalks, and signing and pavement markings. In observance of the holiday season, there will be no work scheduled from Sunday, December 23, 2012 through Wednesday, January 2, 2013. US 98 North: Across from Little Cypress Drive: Maintenance permit project --- Crews will be building a driveway entrance during the week of January 3, 2013. No lane closures are expected. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction workers in the construction zone.

US 92: At Memorial and Old Dixie Highway: Maintenance permit project --- Crews will be building a driveway entrance the week of January 3, 2013.  Expect intermittent lane closures from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.  Motorists are advised to use caution in the area.

US 27: At Cottonwood Drive: Maintenance permit project --- Montoya Electric Service will be installing an emergency traffic signal during the week of January 3, 2013. No lane closures are expected. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction workers in the construction zone.

US 27: At Home Run Boulevard: Maintenance permit project --- The improvements under this project include construction of a right turn, driveway entrance, curb and gutter.Future intermittent lane closures are expected between 9 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction workers in the construction zone.

US 27: From north of Ritchie Road to south of Barry Road:  Construction project --- Improvements being made as part of this project consist of widening US 27 from a four-lane divided highway to a six-lane divided highway, milling (removing old asphalt) and resurfacing the existing roadway, drainage improvements, improved signalization, lighting, installation of sound barrier walls, sidewalk construction, installation of five-foot paved bike lanes, and signing and pavement markings. During the week of Sunday, December 23, 2012, the contractor continues with the maintenance of silt fence for the purpose of erosion control, maintenance of traffic (MOT), drainage improvements, utility operations, removal of dirt, and installation of gravity wall. Motorists will experience traffic shifts on northbound and southbound US 27, on Waverly Barn Road, and on Dunson Road.

Motorists are advised to obey the speed limit and exercise extreme caution for their own safety as well as the safety of the construction workers.  Weather permitting, this project is expected to be complete in the fall of 2014.  The contractor is Southland Construction Services, Inc.  For additional project information contact Trudy Gerena, Public Information Officer, at (813) 299-3579.

US 17 (North of Avenue K. NW): Maintenance permit project --- This project consist of the removal of curb and driveway and construction of curb and sidewalk. Motorists should expect intermittent nighttime lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting the week of January 3, 2013. Motorists should use caution while driving in this work zone.

US 17: Between Crossover Road and SR 60: Construction project --- Polk County is constructing a new roadway, the Bartow Northern Connector, from US 98 to US 17. The improvements on US 17 include right and left turn lane construction and installation of a signal. Intermittent lane closures on US 17 are expected from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. of the inside northbound lane and alternating between the inside and outside southbound lanes. The project is expected to be completed in winter 2012. The contractor is Lane Construction.

US 17: From CR 640 Homeland to 9th street NE Fort Meade: Maintenance project --- Crews will be cleaning and reshaping ditches and also reworking shoulders and medians with possible lane closures. Work will continue through mid January 2013. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use caution.

SR 659 (Combee Road): South of Bob Rawls Road:  Maintenance permit project --- Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the week of January 3, 2013 for driveway construction.  Motorists are advised to expect delays and use caution.

SR 572 (Airport Road): At Gay Street:  Maintenance permit project --- This project includes a turn lane and sidewalk improvements. Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during week of January 3, 2013. Motorists should use caution while in the area.

SR 544: West of US 17/98: Maintenance permit project --- This project consist of removal and construction of a driveway entrance.  Intermittent nighttime lane closures from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. are expected starting the week of December 17.  Motorists should use caution while driving in this work zone.

SR 60 (Van Fleet Drive): From west of US 98/Broadway Avenue to west of US 17:  Construction project --- The improvements under this contract consist of reconstruction and widening to convert the existing SR 60/ US 98 intersection in Bartow from asphalt to concrete and provide additional travel lanes. The scope of work includes concrete pavement, asphalt milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, sidewalk, lighting, signalization, signing and pavement marking and landscaping.

 If lane closures are needed when work continues, details will be contained in the next RoadWatch update. After the holidays, work on new travel and turn lanes, curbs, sidewalks and drainage will continue behind barrier walls along eastbound SR 60 from US 98 to Wal-Mart Drive and along southbound US 98 from south of Manor Drive to SR 60. Prep work for installing concrete lanes will also continue behind barrier walls in the center of SR 60 from west of US 98 to Wilson Avenue. The entrance to Fort Fraser Trail on westbound SR 60 is open, while the trail entrance on eastbound SR 60 is closed. SR 60: From east of Alan Loop Road easterly to west of Peace Creek: Construction project --- Improvements along this 4.1 mile section of State Road 60 will include removing asphalt (milling) and resurfacing the roadway with new asphalt, drainage improvements, base work, shoulder work, guardrail, new signage and pavement markings, and signalization and lighting adjustments. There will be no construction activities during the week of December 23, 2012 in observance of the Christmas holiday. Crews will resume work on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. This project is scheduled for completion in the winter of 2013. The contractor is Lane Construction.

SR 60: From east of Peace Creek easterly to US 27: Construction project --- Improvements along this 4.7 mile section of State Road 60 will include removing asphalt (milling) and resurfacing the roadway with new asphalt, widening, concrete approaches for existing bridges and CSX and Florida Midland Railroad crossings, base work, shoulder treatment, drainage improvements, curb and gutters, guardrail, bridge rail retrofits, sidewalks, new signage and pavement markings, and lighting adjustments.  There will be no construction activities during the week of December 23, 2012 in observance of the Christmas holiday.  Crews will resume work on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.  This project is scheduled for completion at the beginning of 2013.  The contractor is APAC Southeast, Inc.

SR 37: North of Carter Road:  Maintenance permit project --- Crews will be constructing a new driveway entrance. Intermittent lane closures may occur during the week of January 3, 2013 from 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Motorists should use caution while in this area.

SR 37: South Florida Avenue at McDonald Street: Maintenance permit project --- Crews will be constructing a new driveway and sidewalk. Intermittent night time lane closures from 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.  are planned for the week of January 3, 2013.  Motorists should use caution while in this area.

SR 33 (Lakeland Hills Boulevard): From south of Aida Street to north of Socrum Loop Road: Construction project --- The improvements to be made as part of this project consist of milling and resurfacing, road widening, base work, drainage improvements, shoulder treatment, curb and gutters, sidewalks, signalization and signing and pavement marking. During construction, there will be intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures for paving and widening operations. Motorists may experience temporary delays during these activities and are advised to use caution and watch for construction workers in the construction zone. This project is anticipated for completion in January 2013.  The contractor is APAC Southeast, Inc.

SR 33: At Edward Street: Maintenance permit project --- This work consists of driveway entrance removal, ditch restoration, sidewalk and curb and gutter construction. No lane closures from 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. are expected the week of January 3, 2013. Motorists are advised to use caution in this area.

SR 33: From Jenkins Nissan Car Dealership to north of Deeson Point Boulevard/Combee Road Intersection: Construction project --- The improvements to be made as part of this project consist of road widening to provide additional travel lanes. The scope of work includes asphalt milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, sidewalk, lighting, signalization, and signing and pavement markings. The week of December 23, the contractor will not be working and will resume working on the job on January 2, 2013. This project is anticipated for completion in spring 2013. The contractor is Cone and Graham, Inc.

SR 33: South of I-4 at Bridge Water Center Lane:  Maintenance permits project ---- This project consists of milling and resurfacing and adding a right turn lane. Intermittent lane closures are expected from 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. the week of January 3, 2013. Motorists are advised to use caution while in this area.

SR 33: One mile north of Dean Still Road: Maintenance permits project --- This project consists of the construction of a residential driveway entrance starting the week of January 3, 2013. No lane closures are expected.  Motorists are advised to use caution while in this area.

SR 33: North of Glenwood Drive: Maintenance permit project --- This work consists of driveway entrance removal, median modification, sidewalk and curb and gutter construction. Intermittent lane closures from 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. are expected the week of January 3, 2013.  Motorists are advised to use caution in this area.

SR 17:Scenic Highway in Frostproof: Between F Street and I Street:  Maintenance permit project – The City of Frostproof and Killebrew Inc. will be upgrading the water main on the west right of way of SR 17. Work starts on January 3, 2013 through January 17, 2013. Daytime lane closures are expected between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. with flagmen to control traffic. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use caution in this area. Killebrew will be placing signs along the project on December 26, 2012.  Work should not impact traffic.
