Winter Haven man charged with Lakeland murder | News
Winter Haven, FL-- Back on December 9, 10 News told you about the murder of 23-year-old Sean Anthony Williamson in Lakeland and today, Polk deputies have named a suspect arrested in the case.
On Saturday, officials arrested 22-year-old Devon Anthony Sykes of Winter Haven for the murder, who reportedly has an extensive criminal history.
In addition to being charged with Williamson's murder, officials say Sykes has previously been charged with possession of marijuana on multiple occasions, tampering with evidence and transporting dangerous material with a suspended license.
According to reports from the morning of the murder, Williamson and a friend went out in Ybor City on Saturday, December 8.
When they returned home around 4 a.m. on Sunday, two men reportedly exited a dark-colored car and shot at the victims as they walked up to Williamson's home.
When officials arrived, they found Williamson lying in the road near Swiss Rd. and Ponderosa.
Deputies said the friend drove away, leaving Williamson behind in the road, and drove himself to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for gunshot wounds.
He has since been released.
This latest report did not mention anything about the second suspect, though deputies still urge anyone with information regarding this case to contact the Polk County Sheriff's Office. at 863-298-6200.
