Shoppers can get a free ride on Black Friday | News
Bartow, Florida – Winter Haven Area Transit (WHAT), Citrus Connection and Polk County Transit Services (PCTS) will offer its annual Free Ride Friday Nov. 23.
Free Ride Friday gives riders an opportunity to use the bus system free of charge on Black Friday to conduct Christmas shopping, visit family or just to get to wherever they need to go for any reason. It also provides an opportunity for people who have never tried the public transportation system to try it for free.
The three transit systems have a monthly ridership of over 200,000 delivering customers to grocery stores, all major shopping centers, medical centers and businesses throughout Polk County so they don’t have to bother with driving in traffic and finding parking spots.
In addition to routes in Winter Haven, WHAT, Citrus Connection and PCTS also serves residents in Auburndale, Bartow, Eloise, Eagle Lake, Highland City, Lake Wales, Lake Alfred, Haines City, Wahneta and Lakeland.
Free Ride Friday is a program designed to help get people around during the holiday season, introduce new riders to the system and ease the traffic congestion on the roads.
With fluctuating gasoline prices, riding public transportation is still a bargain during the week; a day pass (24-hour) is $3, one-way trips are only $1.50 for adults, $1.25 for students, .75 cents for Senior Citizens (65 or older) and Handicapped persons. Children under age 6 ride free with accompanying adult.
