Deputy, woman hospitalized crash on I-4

Polk, Florida -- A three-vehicle crash on I-4 near the off-ramp leading to CR 557 in Polk County sent two to the hospital, including one deputy Friday morning.

Authorities say around 10:40 a.m., a gold 2003 Chevy Malibu hit a 2009 semi-tractor trailer and a green 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck while they were heading east on I-4.

The impact of the crash caused Mary Fow, the driver of the Mailbu, to lose control and slide off the off-ramp and hit Polk County Traffic Deputy Nick Taylor's motorcycle, along with the deputy, while he was conducting a traffic stop on the south shoulder of the I-4 eastbound off-ramp leading to CR 557.

Deputy Taylor, who has been with the agency for 21 years, was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. He is listed in stable condition at this time.

Fow was also taken to LRMC where she is also listed in stable condition.

All eastbound lanes except for one were closed for over four hours while deputies investigated the crash. The sheriff's office expects all lanes to be reopened in a few minutes of this update.
