Officials say 63-year-old Marva Jean Daniels, of Orlando, was killed in a crash between a semi-truck and a car.
The road was completely shut down for a time, but officials reopened the two leftmost lanes at 11 a.m.
By 1 p.m. all lanes of traffic were reopened.
The Florida Highway Patrol says based on preliminary information, a tractor trailer driven by Michael Cross was getting on the Interstate from Memorial Boulevard.
As the tractor trailer attempted to merge from the acceleration lane, a Ford Focus already on the interstate in front of him slowed down significantly. Cross was unable to slow his truck down in time and crashed into the rear of the car.
Both vehicles came to a rest on the roadway's shoulder and burst into flames. Cross was able to get out of his truck with minor injuries, but Daniels died on scene.
FHP says charges are pending in the accident.
