WInter Haven gets past Lake Gibson 35-30

In Polk County Friday night Lake Gibson played a district game against Winter Haven.  In the first quarter Winter Haven struck first with two touchdowns. 

But in the second quarter Lake Gibson rattled off three scores of their own to pull within 4 as Winter Haven held a 21-17 halftime lead.

In the third and fourth quarters both teams exchanged touchdowns, as Winter Haven was able to hang on for the 35-30 victory.

Our Number 1 play of the week courtesy Lakeland High School... QB Aaron Johnson throws it straight up in the air as he is hit.  TE Trenton Pearson smartly swats it out of the air to prevent an interception - but that still doesn't stop Anthony Davis from making the catch for the 7-yard gain.

Lakeland Stays Unbeaten with Close Win

North Miami Beach invaded Lakeland for a battle with the Dreadnaughts but the home team got the las laugh, 49-35 Friday night.

Miami Beach quarterback Cedric Wiggins hits Steve Ishmael for the 14-yard touchdown for a quick 7-0 Chargers lead in the first quarter.

Lakeland answered with Anthony Davis. He charged in for a nice 12-yard touchdown run.

Kathleen rallies to win 45-44 over Lake Gibson in 5th Overtime

Lakeland, Florida-- It was a rivalry showdown in Lakeland Friday night as Lake Gibson was invading Kathleen.

In the second quarter, Kathleen blocked a punt deep in Lake Gibson territory. That set up a one yard run from Anthony Ware to make it 14-7, Braves. Then in the third, the Braves Thomas Boles bounced to the outside to take a 21-7 lead. 

Lakeland runs past Winter Haven 28-7

Lakeland, Fl - The Lakeland Drednaughts improve to 2-0 on the season with a 28-7 victory of Winter Haven.

Lakeland got on the board in the first quarter when quarterback Aaron Johnson scored on a seven-yard run.

In the second quarter it was Johnson again, scoring on a 10-yard run.

Running back Ra'Don Dwight would also find the endzone, scoring on a short TD run, helping Lakeland run past Winter Haven 28-7.

Next week, the Drednaughts play host to Lyman, while Winter Haven plays at George Jenkins.

High school volleyball player returns with one leg

LAKELAND, Fla. - Zoe Gibbs may blend in with everyone else on the volleyball court at Lakeland's McKeel Academy of Technology, and if you ask her, that's just fine. Unlike most high school athletes, she's not looking to be a star on the court. In fact, she's just happy to be on the court at all. That's because last Easter a jet ski collision left Zoe with a severed leg and nearly took her life.

"One personal water craft actually went up and over the other one," said Gary Morse of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, the agency that investigated the crash.

Lake Gibson stuns Winter Haven, 28-24

Lakeland, Florida - The Lake Gibson Braves rallied back from a two-score deficit to defeat Winter Haven in a Class 6A District 10 matchup of unbeaten teams.

Winter Haven (4-1, 1-1) came into the game ranked No. 4 in the state

Next week, Lake Gibson (6-0, 2-0) hosts Ridge Community, and Winter Haven will face Mulberry at home.
