Lakeland, FL - Kathleen High School quarterback Kevin Wilson is the 10 News Sports Player of the Week.

Last Friday night, in a 24-3 district clinching win over Lakeland, Wilson completed 15 of 20 passes for 241 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions.

With the win, the Red Devils not only clinched the Class 7A, District 5 championship, but they ended a 20-year losing streak to their biggest rival. This year Kathleen and Lakeland also became district rivals. But for Wilson, the district win is most important.

"It was exciting. It was big for us. What made it more special was we were playing for the district title. But we were playing for that night and this year... not 20 years ago. That's what kept us together and play hard."

For the past three seasons, Wilson has been Kathleen's starting free safety. But head coach Irving Strickland selected Wilson after a solid showing their spring game against Fort Meade.

For the season, Wilson has completed nearly 75% of his passes, for 1190 yards, throwing 15 touchdowns and only three interceptions.

Kathleen (8-1, 5-0) finishes the regular season at home against American Heritage, also a playoff bound team.

On November 15th the Red Devils open the state playoffs at home, hosting Orlando Lake Nona.
