Tampa Prep boys advance to 3A state title game

Lakeland, FL -- The Tampa Prep boys basketball team, advanced to Wednesday's 3A state championship game, with a 64-49 win over Shorecrest.

Sophomore Juwan Durham led the Terrapins with 25 points, 17 rebounds, and 5 blocks.  Michael Fridella added 21 for the Terps' cause.

Tampa Prep is trying to make it 2 straight state championships.  They play Sagemont HS from Weston, at 4:30pm Wednesday, for the 3A state championship.

Kathleen's season ends with 28-14 loss at Kissimmee Osceola

Kissimmee, FL - The Osceola Kowboys game out fast, scoring 21 first half points before Kathleen got on the scoreboard.

The Red Devil's tried to get back in the game late in the first half when Marquis Zinnermon ripped off a 75-yard touchdown run.

But the Kowboys held on for the 28-14 victory, ending Kathleen's season at 9-3.

Lakeland, FL - Kathleen head coach Irving Strickland reflects on his teams big win last Friday over rival Lakeland.

Kathleen beat Lakeland 24-3, ending a 20-year losing streak to their biggest rival.  But the win also gave the Red Devils the Class 7A, District 5 title.

Kevin Wilson named Player of the Week

Lakeland, FL - Kathleen High School quarterback Kevin Wilson is the 10 News Sports Player of the Week.

Last Friday night, in a 24-3 district clinching win over Lakeland, Wilson completed 15 of 20 passes for 241 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions.

With the win, the Red Devils not only clinched the Class 7A, District 5 championship, but they ended a 20-year losing streak to their biggest rival. This year Kathleen and Lakeland also became district rivals. But for Wilson, the district win is most important.

1 arrest, guns confiscated near high football game

LAKELAND, Florida -- Security was extremely tight before, during and after a high school football game in Polk County as Lakeland High School hosted Kathleen for the district championship.

Lakeland Police reported one arrest inside the football stadium that was packed with 8,000-plus fans. Officers say a number of guns were also found and confiscated in areas immediately surrounding the stadium, several possibly during a traffic stop.

First time in 20 years, Kathleen tops Lakeland

Lakeland, Florida -- With 8,000 fans on hand, the biggest rivalry in Polk County ended differently for the first time in 20 years. Kathleen beat arch nemesis Lakeland 24-3.

The Red Devils victory, was their first since 1991 over the Dreadnaughts, handing them the District 5, Class 7A title.
