Indoor Triathlon

Lakeland, Florida -- Lakeland's Parks & Recreation will host an Indoor Triathlon.

This fun challenge is perfect for everyone – from seasoned triathletes to first-timers. Race a 20-minute swim, 20-minute bike and a 20-minute run in the controlled environment of the Kelly Recreation and Gandy Pool Complexes.  The Indoor Triathlon will be held on Saturday, April 13th, with check-in at 8:00 am at the Kelly Recreation Complex.

You set your own pace. Performance is measured by distance covered in each of the three legs. The more distance you cover, the higher your score.

Bartow, Florida -- The fourth annual County Health Rankings & Roadmaps tool was released today with rankings that serve as a snapshot of the health of individuals in counties across the state and nation.

Polk County ranked 30th in health outcomes compared to the other 67 county health departments in Florida.  Health outcomes measure the overall health of our county in terms of low birth rate, premature death rate, and other factors.

Polk County, Florida-- The official Polk County website highlights free, diabetes classes offered to all Polk residents. 

One class took place yesterday, but as pictured above, residents can still catch classes on March 18 and April 15.

To do so, they have set up a series of free classes full of information.

Bartow, FL – Tobacco Free Partnership of Polk County, the Polk County Health Department and the statewide Tobacco Free Florida program are working to send a significant messages to smokers during the upcoming Great American Smokeout: "There is a Quitter In You."

The Great American Smokeout is set to take place tomorrow, November 15. The event, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, raises awareness about the dangers of smoking and the many effective resources available to successfully quit, organizers say.

Polk County, FL-- The county Health Department would like to remind citizens of the importance of seasonal Flu and Pneumonia vaccines. They encourage those who have not yet done so to, "take time to protect yourself and your family from preventable illness this flue season."

While the department encourages everyone over six-months to be vaccinated for the Flu, they say it is extremely important for those at  high risk of serious Flu complications to take action.
