3rd case of rabies confirmed in Polk Co.

Polk County, FL -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office confirmed today, Aug. 31 the third positive case of rabies in Polk County this year.

According to police, on Aug. 24, the resident's dog killed a bat and brought it into the home, located on Harvard Street in Lakeland.

The owner called the sheriff's office and the bat was impounded and sent to the state laboratory for rabies testing which came back today.

The owner's dog will be quarantined for 45 days and was current on all vaccines.

To ensure your pets remains safe, make sure they are supervised while outdoors at all times.
