The Brown Bag Concert Series continues this week with the Bartow High School band and Southeastern University music departments providing entertainment.

Bring your lunch and enjoy free music between noon and 1:00 p.m. at the Bartow Public Library.

Family Spring Break Hike Night at Bok

Bartow, Florida -- Bartow residents are invited to enjoy a Family Spring Break Night Hike at nearby Bok Tower Gardens.

Organizers say participants can "unravel the mysteries of nighttime sights and sounds in the Gardens after the sun goes down," and "watch for nocturnal animals, the glow of spider eyes and more while listening to the creatures of the night."

It's taking place between 7 and 9 p.m. this Thursday at Bok Tower Gardens.

Bartow, Florida-- As Diabetes has become a serious problem in Polk County, the Polk Health Care Plan wants to make sure residents have an opportunity to learn all they need to about the disease.

To do so, they have set up a series of free classes full of information.

Students to compete in Polk Scholastic Chess Championship

Students to compete in Polk Scholastic Chess Championship

Polk County, Florida-- In celebration of 25 years of competitive Polk County student chess tournaments, over 450 students from kindergarten to 12th grade will compete in the last and final Championship round of a five-game tournament on Saturday, March 16.  

The students will play other similarly skilled students, and then winners will be given trophies at 4 p.m. after the completion of play.

The championship event will take place at the Highland Park Church of the Nazarene in the Family Ministries Building:  4730 Lakeland Highlands Road, Lakeland, FL 33813.

Lakeland, Florida-- As of March 18, students at Crystal Lake Elementary School will no longer have a crossing guard at S. Crystal Lake Dr. and Hester Dr. Instead, they will be encouraged to cross with a school guard at S. Crystal Lake Dr. and Lowery Ave.

Chain of Lakes Cycling Classic

Winter Haven, Florida -- Sunday, March 3 begins a bike riding extravaganza!

The 2013 Chain of Lakes Cycling Classic is a USAC sanctioned race through downtown Winter Haven. Races begin around Central Park and travel at super fast speeds through downtown.The event includes time trials, a road race, a street circuit race, kids races and a bike rodeo.

It is guaranteed to be challenging and rewarding to cycling competitors, and exciting to spectators. Benefits of the races go to the Humane Society of Polk County.
