"The Ant Bully" playing this Wednesday at the Bartow Public Library

Bartow, FL -- An important lesson in respect for nature's smallest creatures can be found in a film this Wednesday showing at the Bartow Public Library.

"The Ant Bully" is based on the book by John Nickle.

In the movie, "Lucas" aims his water pistol at some hapless ants, but they retaliate by shrinking him down to their size.

After the movie, a drawing will be held for a free ant farm!

Polk County, Florida-- During the summer, many people crowd the beaches and pools to cool off and have a good time, but Polk County's Health Department wants to remind residents of the risk of drowning, and encourage safe ways to beat the heat in the water.

Polk County Fire Rescue Division reps say it’s imperative to teach and learn water-related injury prevention techniques, and even more so for young children, who make up more than one-in-five victims of fatal drowning incidents.

The Wonderful World of Bats is part of the Bartow Public Library's Super Summer Shows.

They are designed for school-aged children six-years and up. Children under 6 are welcome to attend as long as they sit with an adult and sit quietly and still.

Seating is available on a first come, first served basis, and doors open 15 minutes prior to the performance.

Bartow, Florida -- Bats get a bad rap, but the truth is, they're an important part of our environment.

So on Wednesday, the Bartow Public Library's Super Summer Show is giving kids an opportunity to get up close with bats and learn more about them with a presentation by the Florida Bat Conservancy.

The class is designed for school-aged children 6-years-old and up. Children under 6 are also welcome to attend, but library satff requests they sit "quietly and still" with an adult.

Bartow, Florida -- John Storms' World of Reptiles is coming to Bartow as a part of the Bartow Public Library's Super Summer Shows.

'World of Reptiles', featuring live reptiles from around the world, will be at the library this Wednesday, June 12, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., or at 2 p.m. Seating will be available on a first come, first served basis, and doors will open 15 minutes prior to the performance.

Kids' movies just $1 each Tuesday and Wednesday at Eagle Ridge Mall

Lake Wales, Florida -- Spend summer break taking in a movie at a special low price.

During Polk County's school summer break, Regal Cinemas is running a special summer movie series with a range of children's movies, the Regal Summer Movie Express.

The films run at the Eagle Ridge 12 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and admission is just $1 per person.
