Pluckin', pickin' and playin' experts coming to the area

Bartow, Florida -- Put down that banjo, guitar or other stringed instrument, and come see how the pros do it this week!

On Saturday, June 15, Folk & Bluegrass Variety take center stage as the Fort Green Pickin' Society shows its stuff.

The members of this group of musicians each has a minimum of 30 years of picking experience in a variety of bands over the years.

This is their debut in our area as a group.

The six members have great fun playing an eclectic mix of favorites from the bluegrass, vintage country, acoustic roots and folk genres.

Bartow, Florida -- John Storms' World of Reptiles is coming to Bartow as a part of the Bartow Public Library's Super Summer Shows.

'World of Reptiles', featuring live reptiles from around the world, will be at the library this Wednesday, June 12, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., or at 2 p.m. Seating will be available on a first come, first served basis, and doors will open 15 minutes prior to the performance.

The Family Fun Day at the History Center is this Saturday June 8th.

It's a day at the Polk Historical Museum (old courthouse) where the family gets time to enjoy each other doing various activities.

The Polk County Historical Museum opened its doors on September 19, 1998, in the Old Polk County Courthouse, located in downtown Bartow.

Polk County, Florida-- The Polk County Sheriff's Office is seeking locals who have a love for volunteering and serving the community, and an interest in working alongside deputies to make a difference.

Thursday will mark Florida Hands & Voices Family Fun Night. The Support session by the Florida Hands & Voices Group has been established to provide education, advice, self-help skills for the parents of deaf or hard of hearing children discover new potentials and possibilities.

Nature Tour sign ups begin on the first working day of each month, so the next one is Sunday, May 26 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Special All-American events at Bok Tower Gardens on Memorial Day

Lake Wales, Florida -- In honor of America's military men and women, Bok Tower Gardens is offering special All-American features on Memorial Day 2013.

Anyone with a valid military ID showing they're on active duty, retired, or a disabled veteran will get into the gardens for free on May 27th.

Everyone in the gardens will be treated to a pair of special concerts on the Singing Tower carillon included with admission.
