Public meeting to discuss Third Street Trail and road expansion

Winter Haven, FL -- The City of Winter Haven is having a public presentation on Tuesday, June 7 to discuss the expansion of Chain of Lakes Trail and Third Street SW Roadway.

The expansion of the trail will go from downtown to Avenue G and U.S. 17 SW.  Currently, Third Street SW from Magnolia Avenue to Avenue G SW is a four-lane roadway, which was formerly U.S. Highway 17.

The City was awarded a $715,083 grant from FDOT to complete the following as part of the downtown revitalization efforts, the trail network and the beautification work:

  • Reduce the existing four-lane roadway to two lanes
  • Construct a trail on the east side of the roadway connecting South Central Park to Avenue G (Citi Centre Area)
  • Provide a six-foot sidewalk and on-street parking on the west side of the roadway
  • Install landscaping and drainage features along the corridor

The meeting will feature project photo with staff available to answer questions and take comments.

The meeting will take place  from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at the Winter Haven Public Library Multipurpose Room, located at 325 Ave. A NW.  A brief presentation on the project will be given at 5:30 p.m.

The project is expected to break ground in mid-2012.
