Fuel prices spiking again in Bartow

Bartow, FL -- If you've noticed the price of gasoline spiking again around Bartow, you're right. And it's been happening quickly.

Retail gas prices in the Southeast increased 10 cents from just last week and are expected to rise throughout the month, according to AAA.

Since July 4, motorists have seen prices at the pump increase after a steady two-month decline.

Upward pressure on the market pushed oil to close at its highest settlement since May, say experts, and that has a lot to do with it.

Winter Haven, Florida--  Despite rising ticket prices at other major Central Florida attractions, LEGOLAND® Florida today announced it will keep its prices steady through the summer.

According to a recent release, LEGOLAND® currently charges $75 for adults and $65 for children under 12.  Also, a family of four visiting the park will save between $40 and $56 a day compared to a visit to a competing park.

Polk Health Officials issue advice warning on mosquitoes

Bartow, FL -- Today the Polk County Health Department reminded residents and visitors to take simple steps to protect against mosquito-borne illnesses. 

The mosquito population grows in the summer, they say, which is the time of year many residents and visitors head outdoors.

Current reports show average mosquito activity for this time of year, however, recent heavy rainfalls in our area, they say, may cause an increase in mosquito activity. 

Mosquitoes are usually most active during dusk and dawn.

Lake Hollingsworth tree gets "cosmetic surgery"

Lakeland, Florida -- A tree that overhangs the path around Lake Hollingsworth is getting a little TLC. 

According to the City of Lakeland's Facebook page, crews trimmed a large branch that hung low over the path. 

Apparently,it was low enough where some people could have hit their head.

According to the Facebook photo, "the tree was saved but only after undergoing some cosmetic surgery by City of Lakeland arborist and his crew."
