Cops ask for help to solve metal theft in Bartow

Bartow, FL -- They're becoming more and more common as the price of basic metals soars.


Crimes - involving thieves who steel stuff for the metal content - then sell it for scrap.


It happened again, a couple of weeks ago, say Polk County Sheriff's detectives. But this time, in addition to getting away with a bunch of copper wiring, the thieves did about $20,000 damage.

Man arrested for robbing two stores in one day

Bartow, FL -- The Bartow Police Department arrested a man yesterday who committed two armed robberies on the same day.

The first occurred at the Amoco gas station at 1095 S. Hwy 17 on Jan. 31 around 12:30 p.m.

Asmitaben Patel was working the counter when she was attacked by a black male armed with a screwdriver. The suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The second occurred at the Circle K store at 310 W. Main Street the same day around 10:45 p.m.

Lakeland, FL -- Lakeland Police are investigating a vehicle burglary that happened on Dec. 17, 2010, around noon at the Kelly Recreation Center on 404 Imperial Blvd. in Lakeland.


The unknown suspect in the photo used an object to break the vehicle glass and removed contents from the vehicle.


The suspect is described as 5'10" to 6' tall weighing 170 to 190 pounds.

Lakeland, FL -- Lakeland Police are searching for a suspect who robbed a man at gunpoint while he was using a bank ATM.

Ronald Nunnally, 65, of Lakeland, was at the Sun Trust ATM, 3005 Lakeland Highlands Rd, around 10 a.m. today when he heard a voice behind him demanding money.

Nunnally turned and saw a black male, around 5 foot 7 to 5 foot 8 inches tall, wearing a black hoodie and black jeans standing behind him holding a handgun, according to police.

$40,000 Mustang stolen from dealership lot

Winter Haven, Florida - Detectives need your help finding the person who stole a $40,000 Shelby Mustang right off the Hill Nissan Dealership lot.

Winter Haven Police say sometime between 11:00 p.m. and 8 a.m. on January 13, 2011 the 2007 GT500 mustang was parked in the lot near the main entrance of the building when it was stolen. 

The car is red and has two parallel white racing stripes down the middle from the hood to the trunk.  The vehicle has stock tires and no upgrades and has two-toned black and red leather interior.  Detectives say the mustang des not have a tag registered to the VIN number.

Winter Haven police officer steals pot

Winter Haven, FL -- A Winter Haven police officer was arrested by his own department after an incident during the seizure of a large quantity of marijuana plants from a Winter Haven home.

On Jan. 19 at approximately 7:10 p.m., Ricardo Flores, 36, was at the police department just ending his shift while detectives were unloading the evidence from a truck in the Sally Port area.

As the evidence was being processed for storage, Flores, who was not involved in the investigation, approached the pickup and was observed by another officer taking a "marijuana bud" from a plant and concealing it, according to the department.  

Flores then left the Police Department in his own vehicle.

Criminal profiler hired to help solve case

Lakeland, FL (AP) -- Lakeland Police are reaching out to an experienced criminal profiler in hopes of solving a brutal slaying of a 53-year-old woman.


Robin Nock Windsor was found dead Friday in her apartment. On Tuesday, officers passed out fliers to residents, and still have not developed solid leads.


The investigators have chosen Wayne Porter, who began profiling 19 years ago with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, to develop a personality sketch of the person who killed Windsor.
