Bartow police arrest 3 juveniles for 8 burglaries

Bartow, FL -- On March 1, officers of the patrol squad Delta, led by Sgt. William Reall Jr. responded to a reported burglary in progress. 


The burglary was at the motor home storage area of Floral Lake Estates, 2055 S. Floral Avenue in Bartow.


Upon arrival, Officers say they set up a perimeter to contain the area and while doing so three young subjects were observed fleeing from the area. 


Officers chased and captured Travis Winemiller, 14, Brandon Marshall, 15, and Trevor Epps, also 15.

Winter Haven, FL -- FDLE's DNA Database identifies a suspect in an home invasion back in November.


Detectives say 23-year-old Sean Rhodan along with another male, knocked on the apartment door of the victim at 781 Bates Avenue on November 19, 2010. 


When the victim opened the door, police say Rhodan attacked  the victim and put him in a choke hold.

Polk County, Florida -- Polk County Sheriff's detectives are seeking information about an armed personal robbery that occurred on Thursday, February 24, 2011.

Around 9:10 p.m. that evening, three Hispanic males who had just left the El Rancho store located at 4085 SR 60 West in Mulberry were walking east in the ditch parallel to the roadway when they were approached from behind by an unknown black male suspect carrying a shotgun. The suspect pointed the shotgun at and demanded money from all three victims. After the victims complied with the suspect's demands, the suspect told them to turn away from him, and he then fled on foot heading eastbound.

The suspects noticed an unknown make and model black car leaving the El Rancho store parking lot at a high rate of speed shortly after this incident - this vehicle could belong to the suspect. The suspect is described as a black male, around 6' tall, heavyset, with ear-length dreadlocks, wearing a white hoodie and a black bandanna over his face. He was armed with a black shotgun with a wood stock.

Habitual drug offender busted again

Winter Haven, FL -- A Winter Haven man arrested 24 times in the same county, then freed, is busted again.


Polk County detectives say after getting a call of possible drug activity in the Florence Villa area of Winter Haven, they made contact with 42-year-old Joey Harvard at his apartment.  


During a search, detectives discovered Harvard was in possession of a crack cocaine pipe. Detectives also say Harvard had been looking to purchase cocaine in the area.


Harvard was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  He's been arrested in Polk County 24 previous times. Those charges include DWLSR, Fleeting to Elude, Attempted purchase of Cocaine, Aggravated Assault on LEO, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Giving False Name to Law Enforcement, Resisting Arrest Without Violence, Criminal Mischief, Tampering with Evidence, Possession of cannabis, and Violation of Probation. Harvard has been to Florida State Prison twice for DWLSR, Fleeting to Elude and Possession of Cocaine.

16-year-old opens fire in McDonald's parking lot

Lake Wales, FL -- Lake Wales police say a 16-year-old is in jail for shooting at a group of teenagers in a McDonald's parking lot after a high school basketball game.


Lake Wales Police say it happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday at the McDonald's restaurant located at 416 E Central Avenue in Lake Wales.  A crowd of youths gathered at the restaurant after a high school basketball game.


While in the parking lot, a verbal argument started between two 16-year-old boys. As the situation escalated, one of the boys was confronted by three others.  After an exchange of words, the suspect pulled out a small handgun, pointed in the direction of another teen, and fired one shot.  No one was hit by the fired shot.  One of the victims then reported it to the police department.

Sheriff's employee charged with shoplifting

Lakeland, Florida -- A probationary employee with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and a friend were cited Monday for allegedly shoplifting at Lakeland Square Mall.

Deputies said William B. Anderson, 19, and Jacob A. Register, 18, both of Lakeland, selected a rubber bracelet from a display at Spencer Gifts, removed the price tags, put the bracelets in their pockets and walked past the store clerk and register.

Anderson and Register were each given a notice to appear in court.

Bartow mother's alleged killer arrested

Bartow, FL -- After nearly five months of searching, Polk County deputies say they have arrested a man suspected of killing a Bartow woman.


29-year-old Larry Weston had been charged with killing 21-year-old Vershontis Bradley.


Bartow police, who first investigated the shooting on Sept. 17, 2010, say it all started when two men started fighting at the Azeala Gardens apartment complex in Bartow. Police say the two were involved in a fist fight.


Investigators say Bradley, a mother with a 2-year-old daughter, was watching the fight when she saw Larry Weston walk up to the two men and try to jump in.
