Tip leads to arrest of accused violent sexual predator on the run

Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police officers say thanks to an anonymous tip from a citizen the search for an "extremely violent and dangerous" repeat sexual predator on the run has come to an end.

Officers and U.S. Marshals arrested Christopher Jones at a Lakeland duplex early Monday morning.

As authorities surrounded the duplex, Jones refused to surrender and tunneled through the attic to an adjacent unit. Task force members entered the duplex with the help of the Polk County SWAT team and found Jones hiding under the sink.

80 arrested in Polk prostitution sting

Bartow, Florida -- An undercover operation called "Naughty Not Nice" netted 80 arrests for the Polk County Sheriff's Office in just four days over the weekend.

Among those arrested included 24 men and 33 women, 13 of whom were accused of aiding and abetting prostitution and 10 more for drugs and other various charges. 

"We not only think it' worth it, we think it is a wonderful Christmas present for us to deliver to these folks a trip to the county jail for violating the law," said Sheriff Grady Judd at a news conference on Monday afternoon.

Family: Husband is prime suspect in daughter's murder

St. Petersburg, Florida -- A Bay area woman is dead and her family is asking for the community's help to find the man police say killed her.

Bloomingdale native Ashley Atherley was found murdered inside her California apartment nearly two weeks ago. Police have issued a warrant for her husband, Edly Atherley, who they say could be heading back this way.

Trial begins for man accused of "friend's" murder

Bartow, Florida -- Testimony began Wednesday for a Mulberry man accused of killing his friend by shooting and stabbing him dozens of times.

On Jan. 14, 2011, 36-year-old Curtis Patrick Chancey of Lakeland, was allegedly shot and stabbed by 38-year-old Mike Hinson during an argument that occurred on the Bulger Nursery property near Mulberry.

Detectives say Hinson dumped Chancey's body in a water pit north of the Nursery.

Trashed cell phone leads to child porn charges

Lakeland, Florida -- A neighborhood filled with young children was angry to hear their neighbor has been accused of 15 counts of child pornography.

Polk County Sheriff's deputies said 22-year-old Michael Allen Wright was in jail on domestic battery charges one week ago in late November.
