Polk County man gets 42 years in federal prison

Polk County, FL -- U.S. Attorney Robert E. O'Neill announced that 29-year-old Akimmie D. Wesley, of Polk County, was sentenced Monday by a United States District Judge to 42 years in federal prison for robbery, carjacking, bank robbery, carrying a firearm during a crime of violence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to court documents, on the morning of May 3, 2010, Wesley robbed, at gunpoint, the owner of the Hurricane Bay Carwash in Polk County.

Wesley then forced the owner of the carwash into her vehicle and ordered her to drive to a branch of MidFlorida Credit Union where Wesley forced her to withdraw $6,500 from the drive-thru ATM and a drive-thru teller.

Wesley pled guilty on October 5, 2010.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
