Boy shot in arm, police search for shooter
Crime

Lake Wales, Florida -- A family no longer feels safe inside their grandmother's home in Lake Wales.

"My house is not home anymore. My grandkids don't want to stay there," said grandmother Janet Walker. "I don't even want to be in there."

On Sunday morning at 2:30 Walker stepped out to go to the store.

"Later, my other grandson told me as soon I left they came banging on the door (bang, bang, bang), and then they started shooting through the window," said Walker.

Her grandson, 11-year-old Lavoris Jones, who also goes by 'Little Rick' was shot in the arm.

"He was bleeding when I came back -- there was so much blood everywhere," said Walker.

"When I found out they shot in my mom's house, I was furious," said Little Rick's father, who is also named Lavoris Jones. "I was trying to figure out why they'd shoot in here?"

He believes whoever did it was not from their neighborhood.

"I grew up in this area," said Jones. "I know everyone on this block and the next block.  I hope they catch these guys."

"We do ask the person who did it to man up and turn themselves in because we don't believe they were trying to hit an 11-year-old little boy," said Lake Wales police Lt. David Black.

Police have not found any leads and need the public's help. They are increasing patrol in the area to give the community a sense of peace.

If you have any information call the Lake Wales Police Department at 863-678-4223 or call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 800-226-8477.
