Traffic stop reveals over $2M meth operation in Polk

Polk County, Florida -- Two Poinciana men have been federally indicted for possession of, and intent to distribute more than 500 Grams of Meth, Polk County Sheriff's officials announced Tuesday.

According to their report, 21-year-old Scott Eargood and 27-year-old Santos Zamora-Escobar were arrested after deputies discovered nearly 250 grams of meth and a little under $3,500 in cash during a traffic stop on Thursday, May 2.

After finding the meth in the car, officials say a search of a Poinciana home revealed over 100 pounds of meth, all of which was seized by PCSO detectives.

At a price of $20,000 per pound, the Department of Justice reports the methamphetamine seized has an approximate value of $2.2 million.

Department of Justice statements reveal the home was rented four months ago for the purpose of trafficking meth.

On Friday, the investigation continued as agents and detectives searched an Avon Park mobile home on East Oak Island Road. There they found four ounces of meth, a long rifle, an AK-47-type rifle, and three handguns. Investigators say they also searched an apartment on 3rd Street Southeast in Winter Haven, and seized wire transfer documents.

According to the Department of Justice, Eargood and Zamora-Escobar face a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of ten years, and up to life in federal prison for each count.

Officials say additional information on this case will be released this week. 10 News will continue with updates as they become available.
